Hello Spooky Freaks!

We are the brains behind Twisted Retreat.

Twisted Retreat began as a seed of an idea that formulated in 2018, right around when we launched our sister box - Unplugged Book Box (for a variety of book genres).

 But... we weren’t ready to launch.

 After years of thinking on this idea, we knew we were ready in early 2022. The wheels were set in motion.

We knew we wanted Twisted Retreat to have beautiful, elegant horror merch that we’d be excited and proud to use in public or display in our homes.

Our goal is to create a box full of gorgeously written horror and thriller books paired with beautiful but dark and creepy swag.

We don’t want to include items that will sit around and collect dust, but things that you can use on a regular basis.

 We’re big horror fans and we hope you love everything we’ve come up with.

And now, a little about the people behind the boxes:

Melanie - creator & owner

Melanie is a total weirdo who lives for fungi, skulls, and hiking creepy trails in New England. She grew up in Rhode Island where she studied psychology, English, and Nonviolence & Peace Studies. She loves writing, exploring, and dogs. Her biggest fear is spiders. Favorite horror & thriller books- Pet Sematary, The Haunting of Hill House, and Verity. Favorite horror movies- The Conjuring, Halloween, and The Shining.

Aliz: box curator & assistant

Aliz (she/her) believes we're all mad here, and that's what make life more interesting. She fell down the puppy hole many years ago and enjoys having tea time forever (and being a work in progress). She lives for anime, games, reading, collecting all sorts of things, fungi, cheese, sweets, and rice! Her biggest fear is a secret (but frogs are fairly close). Some of her favorite horror materials include Death Note, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Nightmare Before Christmas, Shutter (2004), The Conjuring, Coraline, A Quiet Place, Insidious, 28 Days Later, Train to Busan, The Ring, The Grudge, The Shining, Zombieland, Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Black Butler, Future Diary, Alone, All of us Are Dead, Happiness, Dracula, Re: Zero, Erased, and Alice in Wonderland (tell her it isn't horror and it's off with your heads). Curiouser and curiouser, she loved horror more when she was younger until she got lost and went on a Twisted Retreat, which sparked her love for horror once more.

Drich: box curator & designer

Drich (he/him) is an introverted geek who loves cooking for love, eating for self-love, playing games for fun, hunting for toys as a past time, watching movies and anime for breaks, and being around dogs for life. He studied engineering and martial arts as a hobby, which really didn't help him deal with his biggest fear of spiders. His favorite food includes Chinese, Japanese, and American cuisine but he also enjoys eating bullies occasionally (so DON'T be a bully - seriously, life's scary as it is). Favorite horror/ thriller books, movies, manga, and anime: IT, Conjuring, Bird Box, and Coraline, Lights Out, Shutter (2004), The Ring, Train to Busan, Deadman Wonderland, Elfen Lied, Goblin Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Re: Zero, Highschool of the Dead, Berserk, Constantine, Get Out, American Gods, and The Sandman.
